APN settings for UK mobile Data

There’s a very specific kind of frustration when your phone shows full signal but your internet still does absolutely nothing.

If that sounds familiar, your APN settings might be the issue.

This usually happens after switching networks, changing phones, resetting your handset, or popping a SIM into a device that does not automatically load the right mobile data settings.

If calls and texts work but mobile data does not, the problem could be your APN settings, or simply that you have no data allowance or SIM credit available.

What are APN Settings?

In simple terms, APN settings tell your phone how to connect to your network’s mobile internet.

Think of them like the directions your phone needs to find mobile data properly.

If those directions are wrong, incomplete, or missing, your phone may still look connected, but the internet part just will not work.

Resetting APN Settings

Before manually entering anything, try resetting the APN settings first.

If you’re on Talk Home Mobile, the current reset path on Android is:

Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Reset to default.

Honestly, this is worth trying first because sometimes your phone just needs a little nudge to reload the right settings automatically.

And if that works, great! Job done.

How to Enter APN Settings Manually on Android?

On Android, the menu can look slightly different depending on the phone brand, but it is usually somewhere under your mobile network settings.

Some menu names vary by device and Android version, so do not panic if the wording is a bit different on your phone.

Once you find Access Point Names, tap Add or the + sign and enter the details.

For Talk Home Mobile, the APN settings are:

  • Name: EE Internet
  • APN: everywhere
  • Username: secure
  • Password: secure
  • MMSC: http://mms/
  • MMS proxy: 149.254.201.135
  • MMS port: 8080
  • MCC: 234
  • MNC: 30

The fields for proxy, port, and server are marked as not required, and the authentication type can be left as the default if your phone already shows a value there. Once you’ve entered everything, save the settings.

Then do one more thing:

restart your phone.

It sounds basic, but it helps your phone properly apply the new APN settings.

How to Enter APN Settings Manually on iPhone?

iPhone is usually less hands-on.

The APN on iPhone is normally configured automatically when you reset the mobile data network settings. Its current path is:

Settings > Mobile > Mobile Data Network > Reset Settings.

On iPhone and iPad, you can view and edit your APN in the mobile data settings, although some carriers manage this automatically.

So, if you do not see the option, that is not always a problem. Your carrier may simply be handling it behind the scenes.

A Real-life Example

Let’s say you’ve just switched to a new SIM.

Calls work. Texts work.
But the second you try to use data, nothing loads.

That is usually the moment people assume the network is broken.

But often, it is just the APN settings not loading properly.

A quick reset fixes it for some people. For others, manually entering the settings sorts it in a few minutes.

Annoying? Yes.

Complicated? Not really.

If it still is not working, check these:

  • one of the APN details was typed incorrectly
  • you forgot to save the new settings
  • the old APN is still selected instead of the new one
  • your SIM has no active data allowance or no credit left

The lack of data allowance or SIM credit can also be the reason mobile data is not working, even if the APN settings are fine.

Final Thought

If your mobile data suddenly stops working, do not immediately assume the phone is broken.

Sometimes it is just your APN settings being awkward.

  • Start with a reset.
  • If that fails, enter the details manually.
  • Save everything properly.
  • Restart the phone.

That is usually all it takes to get your mobile data back.
